A paper published by Dr. Yuan Peng, Dr. Reza Fazeli, Mr. Wentao Ye and Distinguished Porfessor Xuemei Bai investigates consumer perspectives on electric vehicle (EV) adoption in Canberra, Australia—a city in the early stages of EV promotion (and the home city of the ARC Laureate Team).

The study found that Canberra residents show relatively strong awareness of the environmental benefits of EVs, and are aware of local incentives. Canberrans appear to know less about operational cost savings and lifecycle emissions. Furthermore, they express concerns over EV performance and cost-effectiveness, suggesting that recent technological progress has not yet translated into widespread consumer confidence. The paper emphasises the need of "a comprehensive local policy framework to facilitate EV uptake in emerging markets".
